Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • El envío no ha sido publicado previamente ni se ha sometido a consideración por ninguna otra revista (o se ha proporcionado una explicación al respecto en los Comentarios al editor/a).
  • El archivo de envío está en formato OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF o WordPerfect.
  • Siempre que sea posible, se proporcionan direcciones URL para las referencias.
  • El texto tiene interlineado sencillo; 10 puntos de tamaño de fuente; se utiliza cursiva en lugar de subrayado (excepto en las direcciones URL); y todas las ilustraciones, figuras y tablas se encuentran colocadas en los lugares del texto apropiados, en vez de al final.
  • El texto se adhiere a los requisitos estilísticos y biliográficos resumidos en las Directrices del autor/a, que aparecen en Acerca de la revista.
  • Si se envía a una sección evaluada por pares de la revista, deben seguirse las instrucciones en Asegurar una evaluación anónima.

Author Guidelines

All articles proposed for consideration by the scientific and research journal Zainak. Cuadernos de Antropología-Etnografía, must rigorously follow the formats, styles and layout specifications indicated in the Section on Norms for the presentation of originals. This document in Basque, Spanish, French and English, is cited in the summary and downloadable from the website. At all times and for inclusion in international repositories and directories, all works will include the title, abstract and keywords in English, in addition to the other requested languages (Basque, Spanish and French). The full texts of the articles will be written in any language used by the scientific community.

Authors are obliged to verify that their submission has not been previously published nor is it in the process of being published in any other journal. In order to facilitate an anonymous review-evaluation by blind peers, it is necessary to comply with the instructions that the platform offers to ensure an anonymous evaluation. It is recommended that authors send their proposals for articles already written to the corresponding open Sections in the journal and that they will be updated periodically, in order to facilitate the editing process and structure of the index.

COMMITMENTS ACQUIRED BY THE PARTIES

Zainak. Cuadernos de Antropología-Etnografía provides direct and immediate access to the contents of each issue, on the basis that it supports the principle of offering a public and free platform, without any charge for publishing costs,for the exchange of knowledge.

All the works sent to the journal will be revised as a previous step to the evaluation, by the Editorial Team of the same. Within this first phase, a review of the quality and thematic adequacy in general terms will be carried out, within a month approximately from the reception of the works. In the event that the work does not conform to the required criteria, a justified response will be sent. The works that pass this first phase will be sent to evaluators specialized in the subjects, who will be guided by criteria of rigor and academic excellence with regard to scientific research in Social Sciences and Humanities. The judgment issued by the peer review will be valid to accept, propose modifications or reject the work. The authors must acquire the commitment to address those suggestions or correct defects that have been highlighted in the reasoned and reasoned evaluations, adapting, if required, a new version of the text in which the modifications are exposed. The journal undertakes to complete this process in a maximum time of six months.

The Editorial Team assumes the ultimate responsibility for the decision about the publication of the evaluated manuscripts, despite the fact that external evaluations play a very relevant role. In no case will the parties reveal any information about the manuscripts to people who are not involved in the process. The Editorial Team guarantees transparency and confidential dialogue between the parties, committing to respond as quickly as possible to any doubts raised.

Once the corresponding article is accepted for publication, after the modifications and suggestions made in the evaluation process, the collegiate organic-editorial structure of Zainak. Cuadernos de Antropología-Etnografía will take care of the assembly and layout of the text, guaranteeing its integrity but being able to vary, ex officio, formal aspects not susceptible to altering the content, in order to be able to adapt all the texts to the same presentation format. Authorship, contact and professional affiliation data will also be included.

The authors undertake to properly cite and reference the studies and research of third parties that have been used, graphic material, etc. Similarly, they undertake to practice an inescapable intellectual honesty that avoids inappropriate or fraudu-lent conduct in research, duplication, conflicts of interest or other series of disputes. The authors also undertake to respond in a timely manner to the review requirements made. The same author may not participate in two consecutive issues of the journal.

The evaluators, mostly external to organic-editorial structure, must show express consent on their qualification for the evaluation of an article. They will conveniently argue their claims by writing unique, methodical and rigorous reports that will be sent to the journal. Aspects such as relevance to the journal's fields and disciplines, methodological clarity, originality, novelty and scientific affiliation of the contributions will be observed.

In order to guarantee transparency in the procedures described and avoid errors or omissions, the journal adheres to the standards of good practices and international ethical norms: Publication Ethics Committee (COPE), Code of Conduct for Journals Publishers; Publishing Ethics Resource Pack (PERK); Investigation fraud; Plagiarism, simultaneous submissions, duplicate publication, conflicts of interest, fragmentation.

REGULATIONS FOR THE PRESENTATION OF ORIGINALS

1. Work will be unedited, which means it will not have been published in its totality or partially.
2. It can be submitted in any of the international scientific community’s languages, but especially in the Basque Country’s three official languages.
3. All work submitted will be presented to Editing Board of the magazine for their consideration and will be sent to, at least, two external assessors (peer review) for their evaluation.
4. The original must be presented electronically, in word format (which can be in either PC or Macintosh format), Arial size 10 font, single-spaced, no space between paragraphs and 2.5 cm margins to the left, right, bottom and top. Two copies on standard ISO 216.
5. It is recommended that the maximum length of the work be around 20 pages the maximum being 30 pages. All pages must be numbered, including the notes and figures.
6. The title page will contain: 1. the title in lower-case (complimented if necessary with a subtitle), 2. its translation into English, 3. the two surnames and name of the author or authors (in the case of a second name only the initial), 4. professional affiliation, address including e-mail (university, investigation bodies, etc…, is the address that appears on the publication), 5. personal contact information, address, telephone fax, e-mail, in case they differ from the professional affiliation, 6. completion date of the work.
7. Works will be accompanied by a summary that will not exceed 120-130 words. Key words will also be included (no more than eight) in order of their importance.
8. For a correct layout of the text, it will be divided into three perfectly differentiated parts, using solely Arabic numerals and in consecutive numbered levels 1. (Upper case bold), 1.1. (Lower-case bold), 1.1.1. (Lower-case), 1.1.1.1. (Lowercase italics). They must not be mixed with Roman numerals or letters.
9. The illustrations, graphics, tables, etc. will be presented in electronic format (TIFF or JPEG format at 300 ppp resolution minimum). Handwriting and photocopies will not be accepted. Its size must be sufficiently big to permit its reproduction (minimum 10/15 cm). The illustrations will be numbered sequentially in a single series and preceded by the word “Figure" (or its abbreviation), with the corresponding note or legend indicating its location in the text. A separate page will contain a relation of all the illustrations indicating: 1. number of the figure, 2. note or legend, 3. date taken, 4. author, 5. source (archive, publication, etc.), 6. publication’s authorization (in the case where it is not the author’s). The graphics and tables will be inserted into word. To create the tables, tabs must not be used, but instead the program's table option must be used.
10. The quotes will be in inverted commas and integrated into the text when they are less than two lines. For longer quotes, a smaller font size must be used, separating them from the paragraph and indented.
11. The notes will be numbered sequentially in Arabic numerals and will be located at the foot of the page. The rules of bibliographic abbreviation will be respected (ISO 690 bibliographic references, UNE 50- 104). This is to say: surnames (in Upper case), name of the author. Title (in italics), edition number, city: editorial, year; pages.

12. It is considered necessary to comply with these regulations to publish.

Monograph Section

Section that groups the selected and evaluated research articles that are included in a monographic issue.

Graphic covers

Written exhibition, review and explanatory note of the image that makes up the cover of the issue, in terms of creation, processes, techniques and procedures as well as reflections of the selected authors.

VARIA

Section that compiles research articles that do not belong to the main structure of the monograph.

Book Reviews

Reviews of scientific research publications, news and relevant international importance.

Research Articles

Original research articles of a theoretical, theoretical-ethnographic or applied nature, selected and evaluated using a system of double blind pairs.

Ethnomuseology

Section aimed at the compilation of research works and texts or graphic documents related to Ethnomuseology.

Opinion and debate

Section open to the anthropological debate on relevant current issues.

Testimonials and ethnographic biographies

Biographies and life trajectories written as ethnographic testimonies.

Privacy Statement

Privacy and protection statement. In accordance with the provisions of current legislation on data protection, it is communicated that both Eusko Ikaskuntza / Sociedad de Estudios Vascos and the Editorial Team of the journals will process the data collected from registered users for the management, editing and dissemination of scientific articles. The information necessary for communication with those involved in the editorial process, authorship and content editing, as well as to inform registered readers, is collected and recorded. Within the framework of these treatments, the data will not be transferred to third parties, except legal obligation.
